The Larch Tree

Although Larches aren’t native to Ireland (or Britain), it is relatively commonly planted in Ireland. The European Larch is native to mountains of central Europe, upland areas in France, Germany and Austria. Larches have woody trunks & stems, needle leaves and a waxy coating that keeps the leaves from losing water which is all characteristic of conifers. But, unlike other evergreen Conifers, they are deciduous, meaning they drop their leaves for part of the year. It is known to be the only deciduous conifer in Europe & the majority of deciduous conifers in other continents are related to them in one way or another.

‘Protection of the Native Irish Honeybee 2021’ Bill passes The Second Stage in Seanad

It’s been just over a month since our beautiful Native Irish Honey Bees (apis mellifera mellifera) first arrived at our new Voluntary Conservation Area at our Cloudforest One site in Lahinch, Co. Clare. We are the first private enterprise to undertake the role of a Voluntary Conservation Area & we are very excited to go down to visit them next week and see how they are developing. 

However, the past month has not only been a big month in our Native Honey Bee conservation efforts. It’s been a big month for all of us concerned with the apis mellifera mellifera & its future.

The Location Of The Red Wood Announced As Carrigaholt, County Clare

We are delighted to announce that the Red Wood, created by Shelbourne FC, will be located in Carrigaholt, County Clare. This Forest is a new chapter in the illustrious history of Shelbourne.

The Red Wood has been growing digitally since the beginning of the 2022 season, but we are now delighted to finally release the real-world site of the Forest on the Wild Atlantic Way.
