Mike From Seakel Fire & Security (CoolPartner 002) Takes Part In 700KM Charity Cycle From Nantes To Lourdes

Congratulations to Mike from Seakel Fire & Security (CoolPartner 002) who is a part of a team of 20 cyclists (8 back-up) on a 700km charity cycle from Nantes to Lourdes raising funds for Cliona’s Foundation and the Limerick Lourdes Invalid Fund.

The team set off on their journey on the 9th of June & will cross the finish line in Lourdes tomorrow, Tuesday the 14th of June. Across the 6 days, the team passed through Nantes to La Roche Sur Yon, La Rochelle, La Royan, Bordeaux, Mont Du Marsan, Lembeye.

This unique fundraiser was first held in 2008 &  then in 2011, 2013 & 2016. They were originally scheduled to take to the roads again in 2020 but Covid dictated otherwise  & with recharged batteries and a fresh appetite to raise as much money as possible for both charities the cycling team are back and more focused than ever.

Last week, while passing through La Rochelle, the team met the recent Champions Cup-winning Coach & Munster legend, Ronan O’Gara in the home ground of La Rochelle, the  Stade Marcel-Deflandre.

Cliona’s Foundation is a National charity with their office in Limerick that provides financial assistance directly to parents of children with life-limiting or chronic complex care needs across Ireland to help with the non-medical expenses related to caring for their child.

Committee member and cyclist Fergal Deegan is one of 3 that will have cycled in all of the 5 cycles when he arrives in Lourdes:

“ When we did this in 2008 we assumed it was going to be a one-off, but such was the enjoyment, support & interest we now find ourselves getting ready for Limerick to Lourdes No 5.  It is a massive undertaking in terms of planning, training, fundraising & commitment from everyone involved….It will be tough but  nothing compared to what the families this money will support are going through, & we will also have some great fun along the way too”
