‘Protection of the Native Irish Honeybee 2021’ Bill passes The Second Stage in Seanad
It’s been just over a month since our beautiful Native Irish Honey Bees (apis mellifera mellifera) first arrived at our new Voluntary Conservation Area at our Cloudforest One site in Lahinch, Co. Clare. We are the first private enterprise to undertake the role of a Voluntary Conservation Area & we are very excited to go down to visit them next week and see how they are developing.
However, the past month has not only been a big month in our Native Honey Bee conservation efforts. It’s been a big month for all of us concerned with the apis mellifera mellifera & its future.

The Growth of Electric Vehicles and our Tesla Road Trip to Cloudforest One
According to the SEAI, at the end of 2021 – there were 45,000 electric vehicles in Ireland. As well as this, new electric cars registration has tripled in the last three years (8,646 in 2021 compared to 4,013 in 2020 and 3,444 in 2019).
In January 2022, New electric car registrations reached their highest month on record with 2,714 registered in January 2022, which is an +178% increase from January 2021. This move towards electric vehicles has been in the pipeline for many years as individuals & businesses have sought ways to reduce their carbon footprint in the face of the major climate crisis we face.
Cloudforests Climate Change Page Has Been Launched
Climate projections for the next century indicate changes in wind speeds and storm tracks; increased likelihood of river and coastal flooding; changes in the distribution of plant and animal species and in the timing of lifecycle events of native species; water stress for crops, pressure on water supply and adverse impacts on water quality and negative impacts on human health and wellbeing.
Forestry as a Weapon in Tackling Carbon Emissions
There is no doubt about it; forestry is an underutilized weapon in the fight against Carbon Emissions, especially in Ireland. This point has recently been underlined by Forest Industries Ireland (FII), who have said forestry could potentially provide over 300 million tonnes of additional carbon dioxide (CO2) sequestration by 2050
