Learning about honeybees on Cloudforest One

In November, we were joined on our Community Planting Day by the wonderful NIHBS Native Irish Honeybee Society beekeepers Aideen Day and Hergen Bayer who manage hives on our Cloudforest sites. They kept our CoolPartners spellbound with a fascinating talk about the honeybee's lifecycle, the work they do to protect the Irish honeybee from hybridisation with imported bees, and how hives work.

It's important to us that our native Irish honeybee conservation zones don't cause competition for the wild bee populations on and around our sites, so we keep our hive numbers low, and work on improving the foraging for bees and other pollinators. During our planting day, we added a new orchard to Cloudforest One - we can't wait to see that in blossom each year going forward!
