Enerpower get stuck in!

On Friday, we were delighted to meet up with the Enerpower crew who travelled up from Waterford and Kilkenny for some team fun, doing a spot of maintenance in one of our Urban Forests in Dublin 15.

We were delighted to hear about Enerpower’s newly launched sustainability program, and we’re very proud to be the first event their teams have taken part in to celebrate that launch!

First up, we had a talk about how the forest was created, the theory behind Miyawaki-style planting, and what we needed to do that day to help the young trees get established. Then the team got to work, pulling weeds from the mulched area and removing grass from the base of the trees planted directly into the grassy area.

Late-morning, we stopped for tea and snacks, and then it was back to the forest to finish clearing around the trees. The team even found a tree that had been dug up by an animal, so we replanted it and gave it a good watering. August isn’t the best time to be replanting trees, so we’ll keep an eye on that tree over the next few months to make sure it gets re-established.

The weather had held in our favour throughout the morning, but just as the team began to flag, the heavens opened up calling a halt to the day’s activities… a sure sign that their lunch was ready!

We’re really looking forward to doing more with Enerpower, and hopefully we’ll also see them back in Hartstown for a progress update next year! You can read all about the Hartstown urban forest project here - we’ll be keeping the page updated as the forest grows over the coming years.
