The Armada Hotel - Our Official Planting Day Partner

As our Super Twosday Planting Day draws closer, it’s a good time to announce our official Hotel Partner for the event is going to be the breathtaking Armada Hotel, Spanish Point, Co. Clare.

We thought before going any further, it’s important to give some background on the Hotel; it’s history, the amenities surrounding it and why it’s a perfect location to bring our CoolPartners to for Super Twosday on the 22nd of Febuary 2022…

THE HISTORY

The date is September 1588, a number of Spanish Ships, belonging to the Spanish Armada (which was a fleet of 130 ships that sailed from Spain in August 1588, with orders to escort an army from from Flanders to invade England), made landfall in Clare. The weather was stormy & the Atlantic was unforgiving, as a result 2 of the ships, including the San Esteban (700 tons) and the San Marcos (790 tons), were shipwrecked on the Loop Head Peninsula.

Those who were lucky enough to escape their boats and make it safely to land, had the misfortune of being later executed by The High Sheriff of Clare, Boethius Clancy. This event led to a small village on the coast, 2.5 km from Milltown Malbay, being named “Spanish Point”, which is the location for the beautiful Armada Hotel (Named of course after the Spanish Armada).

The history doesn’t stop outside of the hotel. Within the walls of the Armada Hotel, there is more recent history and stories of days gone, none more incredible than the story of the Managing Director of the Armada, John Burke.

In 2017, Burke became one of only 55 Irish People in history (and the first Clare man) to summit Mount Everest, the tallest peak on the planet. This is yet another, small piece of history in the walls of this incredible hotel and in the area around it.

LOCATION

If the history of the Armada Hotel isn’t amazing enough, then it’s location in relation to our Cloudforest sites in Clare, make it extra special. Our three existing CloudForests are spread around the County of Clare, with Cloudforest Two located in Carrigaholt on the Loop Head Peninsula, Cloudforest Three is in the beautiful village called Doonaha on the banks of the River Shannon, and finally, Cloudforest One which is only up the coast from Spanish Point.

This makes the Armada Hotel, the perfect location to bring our CloudPartners out to explore our forests, and most importantly, enjoy an incredible Planting Day in Cloudforest One.

THE HOTEL

The Armada Hotel itself is a beautiful hotel which overlooks the breathtaking Atlantic Ocean. Having recently won Hotel of the Year at the Gold Medal Awards, the Armada truly has everything going for it.

In terms of food, the Armada offers a number of uniquely styled food outlets, including the Pearl Restaurant, Ocean Bar and Bistro, and the cosy, Johnny Burke’s pub.

Johnny Burke's is as snug as it gets and where the history of the Armada began. With pints of a locally produced beer and their very own signature bespoke whiskey or gin. The place tells the story of the Armada, and there is history in every knook and cranny.

If that’s not enough, there is a beautiful outdoor seating area located outside of Johnny Burke’s, which provides a otherworldly, untouched view of the Wild Atlantic Ocean. A dream location for our community of CoolPartners to come together with a pint of Guinness in hand to connect over our passion for making the planet cool.

The Armada’s rooms share this incredible view, so as you pull the curtains in the morning, the first thing you will see is the beautiful landscape of the Spanish Point, a beautiful beach and the waves from the Atlantic Ocean crashing against the rocks.

If you weren’t excited enough about the Planting Day in Cloudforest one in Lahinch on 2nd of February, hopefully reading all about the Armada Hotel and it’s incredible location, service, and food, will excite you even more!
