Elm Gray get planting!
This month we were joined on Cloudforest Four by Elm Gray for a spot of last minute planting. We added 190 native Irish trees, building on the buffer we’re creating in the field surrounded on three sides by sitka plantations.
The sun was shining, and while the neighbour’s sitka forest floor is a dim gloomy affair, its tree tops are full of bird song - so we had sunshine and music all around us as we got to work.
Over the course of the morning we planted a mixture of oak, hawthorn, rowan, alder and blackthorn, plus a new Giant Redwood that will sit at the centre of next year’s planting circle.
The Elm Gray crew were also sent home with a very special mission - to grow on a small oak that had been grown from an acorn and was deemed still too small to plant into the wilderness on the day.
