Cloudforests March Sports Round-Up

March was a busy month for all of our Cloudforests sports teams…

Shelbourne Academy Teams

It was a successful month all-around at the Shelbourne Academy, with multiple wins across all of the Cloudforest sponsored teams (U-15, U-17, U-19 Men's, and the U-17 Women's), as well as some postponements due to the inclement weather.

 Under 15 Men’s

Two wins on the bounce after, a close-fought loss to Shamrock Rovers leaves the Under 15 Men's team in a great position going into April. Unfortunately, one of their games against Carlow-Kilkenny had to be postponed, due to an unplayable pitch. This game will be replayed later on in the season.

(A) Shamrock Rovers 1 - 0  Shelbourne

(H) Shelbourne P - P Carlow-Kilkenny

(H) Shelbourne 4 - 0 Drogheda United

(A) Bray Wanderers 1 - 2 Shelbourne

Under 17 Men’s

The U-17 Men's team has had a similarly successful start to the season. They go into April unbeaten after two wins in March. This includes a huge 9-0 win over Carlow Kilkenny. A great start to, what promises to be a very successful season for the U-17s.

(H) Shelbourne 3-1  Bray Wanderers

(H) Shelbourne 9-0 Carlow-Kilkenny

Under 17 Women's

It wasn’t just the men's team who had success in the month of March. The U-17 Women's team also go into April unbeaten, after a three-nill away win over Sligo Rovers, and a hard-fought nil-all draw against Donegal Ladies. We also had our official jersey presentation with the team on the pitch at Tolka Park in March.

(A) Sligo Rovers 0-3  Shelbourne

(H) Shelbourne 0-0 Donegal League

Under 19 Men's

Finally, the U-19 Men, complete a trio of undefeated Cloudforest sponsored teams. They had two big home wins in the month of March, along with a big six-one victory away win over Longford Town last night, which wrapped up the month of March in fantastic fashion.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t all good news, as Shelbourne U19 Men’s player David Toure suffered a broken leg in their game against Drogheda. All of us here at Cloudforests wish David a speedy recovery. We know he'll be back stronger in no time & we’re with him all the way!

(H) Shelbourne 2 - 0  Athlone Town

(H) Shelbourne 2-0 Drogheda United

(A) Longford Town 1-6 Shelbourne

Our Community Teams

Our other two community Football teams, Swords Celtic & Towerhill Rovers, had mixed results for the month of March, while still representing Cloudforests mission incredibly well.

Towerhill Rovers

Here’s an update from Paul from Towerhill Rovers:

The past three months have been a busy period for TowerHill Rovers, six wins on the bounce have seen the club strengthen its league challenge with seven games to go. Currently, we lead the division by 4 points from the mighty Mullingar Athletic and 5 points from local rivals Stradbally Town with a game in hand. In the weeks ahead, we face some tricky away games, starting with the Westmeath side Inny on Sunday on Sunday 3rd April 2022. The dream for everybody at the club, to play in the CCFL top division for the 2022/2023 season is well within reach for all involved. In the cup competitions, two recent at home wins to ensure the club moves into the Qtr final of the Combined Counties Cup and Division One Cup, our next target is a semi-final in both and to keep the treble alive. Finally, on Friday 25th March 2022, the club held the annual race night, the night was well supported and helped raise vital funds for the club, again we would like to thank Cloudforests for their continued sponsorship and we look forward to inviting the Cloudforest team down to Portlaoise in the months ahead to hopefully share in lifting some silverware. Together we have become an awesome team.

Swords Celtic

Swords Celtic have been unfortunate with their results. They started the month with a 2-2 home draw against Rosemount Mulvey. They followed this with a disappointing 4-1 loss to Castleknock Celtic away from home. Hopefully, next month will be more fruitful!

Cloudforests Endurance Team

Meanwhile, Paul Caldwell & Ruth Brooks from Cloudforests Endurance Team had a mucky month of training in March, which really put the Endurance into Endurance Cycling.

As well as this, Ruth took part in the Walk the Line sunset fundraising hike for Dublin & Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team on the 26th of March with over 700 other people. A great day for a great cause.

Both Ruth & Paul have some big races planned for the weeks and months ahead, at home and abroad, so exciting times ahead at The End Team.

The Red Wood

Shelbournes’ Senior Women’s team had a fantastic month of March, scoring 10 goals and in the process, adding 10 Trees to the Red Wood forest, the world’s first forest dedicated to a football club. This includes a fantastic 7 - nil victory against Cork City last weekend. They would’ve scored even more if it wasn’t for another postponed game due to inclement weather. Well done to everyone involved for the great start to the season!

Unfortunately, Shelbourne's Men’s team wasn’t as successful in March. Damien Duff’s side started off the month with an unlucky one-nil defeat to Derry City at home. This was followed by two hard-fought draws against tough opposition in Dundalk & Bohemians. Duffers men then finished the month with a disappointing 3-0 loss to Finn Harps.

Despite the results, the team was still able to score 2 Goals, which added 2 trees to the Red Wood forest. These trees, along with the 18 Trees which came from the the thousands of fans which packed into Tolka for every home game in March, will be added to the Red Wood forest in the coming weeks & months.

Overall, between the Shelbourne Senior Men & Women's Team, 30 trees were added to the Red Wood forest. This is only the beginning.
