Cloudforests June Sports Round-Up
GAA
Na Deise U15 Womens’
Earlier this month we announced our new sponsorship of the Na Deise U15 ladies' football team. Based in Modeligo and Touraneena, County Waterford, Na Deise field teams from Under 8 up to adult. Their adult team competes at the Intermediate level.
This is our first GAA team in our community teams and we are incredibly excited to welcome the girls into the community. Na Deise U15 ladies' are the 2022 Waterford U15 Feile Champions & will be playing at the All Ireland on July 2nd at the Feile A national final.
It is a massive achievement for this local team to reach an All-Ireland final & we send our best wishes to the management and players from Na Deise on the big day.
We will be there on the day to report on how the team gets on and to capture some content from the event, so keep an eye out for that on our next round-up.
Soccer
Towerhill Rovers
After an incredible end of the season; winning the league on the last day of the season, when they beat Mullingar Athletic & leapfrogged them into first place and brought the league trophy home.
However before they could really celebrate their victory, there was a small matter of the CCFL Counties Cup Final against Monksland United only a few days after their huge league victory.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t make it a double and were beaten by Monksland in a 2-0 victory, which had no shortage of drama. Monksland were first on the score sheet early on from Matt Scaly. This was followed by another Monksland goal almost 60 minutes later when Ryan O’Connor added to the score sheet. Then, just as the game seemed like it was going to peter out, Towerhill won a penalty at the 70th-minute mark. This could not be converted and in the end, Monksland walked away with the cup.
Despite the disappointment of a cup loss, it was a magnificent season for Towerhill Rovers; winning the league, as well as two unfortunate cup defeats. Congratulations to the squad and management team for all their hard work. A big thank you for representing the Cloudforests brand so admirably throughout the season and we look forward to reporting on another exciting season in a couple of months’ time!
Shelbourne Academy
It was a busy month for most of our Cloudforest-Sponsored Shelbourne Academy teams, even with bye-weeks & international campaigns across the various international underage teams.
However, there was still plenty of action and plenty of great results for the teams as they continue to represent the Cloudforest brand in impeccable fashion.
Shelbourne U19
The Shelbourne U19s have had 3 big games since our last round at the end of May. All three of these games came in the National U19 League after two consecutive cup games in May.
The first game was a big Dublin derby against Shamrock Rovers. Unfortunately, Shamrock Rovers got the best of the U19s through two decisive finishes. This was followed by a tightly contested 0-0 draw against Dundalk at Oriel Park a week later. Finally, last weekend the lads had an exciting 2-2 draw with Sligo Rovers at home, to extend their unbeaten run to two. Hopefully, they can get back to winning ways over the next few weeks.
Shelbourne U17
The Shelbourne U17 squad also had two big games in the month of June, with two big cup games and a league game at the very end of May, against Wexford Youths.
They faced Wexford away from home in Ferrycarrig Park, managing to come away with an impressive 7-0 win. They then brought the momentum they gained from this game into their next game, against Dundalk in the cup, where they came away from Oriel Park with another big win & a clean sheet in a 3-0 win.
Their final game of the month was a tighter affair when they faced Bray Wanderers at home in the cup. However, they still managed to scrape another win and make it 3 wins from 3, and more 3 impressively, 3 clean sheets in a row.
Well done to all the lads on the U17s & hopefully they can now bring that winning streak into July.
Shelbourne U17 Women’s
The U17 Women's team have had a brilliant season so far and they had the wind in their sails as they came into the month of June. With only three games during the month, it would be understandable if they struggled to maintain their momentum in the two games against DLR Waves (one in the league & one in the cup) & another league game against Donegal, however, this was far from the case.
Their first encounter with DLR Waves was on the first day of June, however, it was much of the same great football which was seen in May, as they waltzed to a 6-1 victory against a very good side, who dominated the game in the first half.

DLR Waves showed their quality once again later in the month during an entertaining, tightly contested 1-1 draw between the two sides, this time in the league. Shelbournes’ goal came from Rebecca Devereux on her debut!
In between these two enthralling encounters with DLR Waves, came another victory against Donegal in the first Elite Phase game, which finished 4-1 in a resounding win for the girls to continue their unbeaten run this season. They are certainly incredible ambassadors for Women’s Sport & Cloudforests!
Red Wood
It wasn’t just the academy teams that had a successful June on the pitch as both the senior men's & women’s teams had a decent month with a few points picked up and a goal scored, despite only playing a handful of games between them. This means more trees to plant in the RedWood in Carrigaholt Co. Clare.
Shelbourne’s Men’s side only had two games in the month of June, due to the International break interrupting League of Ireland fixtures earlier in the month. Their first game was against their local Dublin rivals Bohemians away from home, which is never an easy fixture. This proved to be the case as Bohemians scraped a 1-0 victory despite being down to 10 men by the end of the game. The men’s team then faced off against Dundalk in a forgettable 0-0 draw at Tolka Park last Friday, which drew 2,700 fans (which means 4 more trees will be planted at the Red Wood at our Cloudforest 4 site).
The Senior Women’s side come up away from June with a similar points tally as they drew against Galway United at Tolka Park earlier in the month. This was then followed by a disappointing, narrow loss to Wexford Youths away from home. The Women's side scored one goal in June and adds another 1 Tree to the Red Wood.
Hopefully, next month both teams can manage a few more goals & results next month, to add to the Red Wood & improve their seasons!
